Our story
Sanford & Son started in 2016 with one truck, one trailer and a simple idea: when a house has to be emptied, the family deserves one company that handles the whole job. Most of the homes we clear were bought in the 1950s, 60s and 70s by people who stayed, and the contents of fifty years do not fit in a dumpster. We built the business around sorting first, selling what has value and clearing the rest, so the family gets money back and the house gets handed over ready for its next chapter.
Today we serve Anne Arundel, Howard, Calvert, Charles and St. Mary's counties in Maryland, and the older neighborhoods of Alexandria, McLean, Falls Church, Arlington, Springfield and Great Falls in Northern Virginia. We are an estate liquidation and cleanout company, not an estate sale company and not a junk removal company. We do not run weekend sales through the house. We inventory the contents, sell them through our own channels and credit the proceeds against your invoice.
Severna Park is still home base. Southern Maryland jobs are local for us as well, since our owner lives in Calvert County, and the Northern Virginia neighborhoods we serve are about an hour away. Wherever the house is, the quote covers the whole job, with no separate travel charge.
How we work
Every project starts with a free, no-obligation walkthrough. You get one flat quote for the whole job, with the resale value of the contents already credited against it. From there the crew sorts room by room: keepsakes, documents and anything you want kept are set aside and photographed, items with resale value are inventoried and sold, what charities can use is donated with receipts, and as much of the rest as possible is recycled. Only what is left gets hauled, so far less ends up in a landfill than with a typical junk removal company.
We specialize in estate liquidations, whole-house cleanouts and hoarding cleanouts, and we also clear storage units, condos, offices and commercial spaces. Executors, attorneys and realtors get itemized inventories, donation receipts and a clear paper trail. A whole estate is usually liquidated and cleared in a few days, and you do not need to be there. We regularly work for families who live out of state and never need to make the trip.
Our crew
The owner is onsite for every project, guiding a careful, objective, detail-oriented crew. Everyone who works in your home is background-checked, and the business carries $1 million in liability insurance. Our trucks are unmarked, our people are discreet, and we treat a hoarding cleanout with the same respect as a waterfront estate. We show up when we say we will, keep you updated with photos, and leave the house broom-clean. We bring our own trucks and trailers, so a large house never waits on a rental, and we size the crew to the property: a condo may take a day, while a four-bedroom colonial with a full basement, garage and shed usually takes two or three.
Our partnership with Streaker's Cleaning
A cleared house is not always a finished house. Through our partnership with Streaker's Cleaning, we can follow the cleanout with a deep move-out clean, so the home is photo-ready for listing, showings or the new owner the day we leave. For families who want to be completely done, we can also introduce you to a realtor we work with, so the cleanout, the cleaning and the sale of the house line up without you having to coordinate three different companies.
